Night Mooring at Maple Bridge — Mi Fu Style Chinese Calligraphy Wall Art | Printable Digital Download
A short Tang lyric for a quiet wall — assembled calligraphy, ready to print.
The Poem
"Night Mooring at Maple Bridge" (《楓橋夜泊》) by Zhang Ji (張繼).
Moonset, crow-call, frost filling the sky; riverside maples and a fisherman’s fire face a sleepless traveler. Outside Gusu, from Cold Mountain Temple, the midnight bell reaches the guest boat. Sparse, cold, and endlessly remembered.
While I watch the moon go down, a crow caws through the frost;
Under the shadows of maple-trees a fisherman moves with his torch;
And I hear, from beyond Su-chou, from the temple on Cold Mountain,
Ringing for me, here in my boat, the midnight bell.
English rendering: classic translation by Witter Bynner & Kiang Kang-hu, The Jade Mountain (1929).
The Poet
Zhang Ji (張繼, mid-8th century) left few surviving poems, yet this night mooring by Maple Bridge became one of the best-known Tang quatrains—frost, river lights, and a temple bell that still travels.
The Calligrapher
This print is composed in the manner of Mi Fu (米芾), the Northern Song master known for vivid, tilting brush energy. Characters are gathered from historical models in his style — a 集字 work, not a claim of an original Mi Fu manuscript.
What “Jizi” (集字) Means
Jizi (集字) means composing a new work by gathering characters from a calligrapher’s historical brush models—one character at a time—then arranging them into a poem. The hand is ancient; the page is newly made for the wall. Traditional characters only; no punctuation in the writing.
Colophon: 張繼《楓橋夜泊》米芾集字, with a single seal.
